31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 22: Song!

I'm not around tomorrow, so here you go, a day early!

I was really, really looking forward to doing this once I had picked a song. Picking the song however, proved nigh on impossible, because I could think of so many songs I'd love to do a nail look for - I'm seriously thinking of making this a permanent fixture on this blog, maybe one song-inspired manicure a week, what do you guys think?

I let the shuffle do the work, and it threw up Def Leppard - Animal (which was also my 4th SNS pick a few months ago). Firstly, here's the video:

I decided that while it'd be very easy to just do an animal print mani, I've done that before and I really want these "inspired by" days to challenge me. I decided to have a think about the lyrics, and here's what I came up with:

I have a couple of things to explain: Firstly, I had NO natural light when I took these pictures, apologies for the darkness. I put a layer of Insta-Dri over the top of them this morning (before I got a chance to picture it in daylight) and it completely decimated all my nail art - I won't be doing that again. I will also fill you in on the blank thumb. Here's an explanation for each nail:

Index Finger: Fire (Inspired by the lyric "like a fire needs flame")

Middle Finger: Wolf (Inspired by the lyric "I cry wolf")

Ring Finger: Zebra print (Inspired by the zebra in the video)

Little Finger: (Slightly dodgy looking) Witch flying across full moon (Inspired by the lyric "In the witching hour")

Thumb: Left black (Inspired by the fact that the circus is actually a very, very dark and scary place). Okay, okay, I forgot to do my thumb - I was going to paint red and white stripes on it to represent a circus tent, but I completely forgot, and by the time I remembered it was after 11pm and I had a polish-induced headache. Please forgive me just this once? I promise I'll never neglect my thumb again ;-)

So, there you have it. LOVED this challenge, and can't wait for tomorrow's one. Which I can't remember, because I STILL haven't written them down. What do you think of this mani? I'm in love with my little wolf (which the Insta-Dri just completely wiped).

Until tomorrow,

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 21

Hello! Today's challenge was the first of the "Inspired By" ones - the ones I've been looking forward to the most.  Day 21 calls for "Inspired by a Colour" - I'm not really sure what to make of that, to be honest. I didn't know whether it was a literal colour, a polish name, an item of some sort, or what - so I've had a look back through my challenge pictures so far and realised that there weren't many 'pink' days. With that in mind, I grabbed every pink polish I could find and decided to just go with it. I forgot to take pictures of the polishes I used, but if anyone wants to know about a particular colour, let me know in the comments and I'll try and remember what I used!

Excuse the lack of daylight, I did these last night because I knew I wouldn't get the chance to do it today (busy bee and all that). Here's what I ended up with:

I've no idea what any of the designs are supposed to be, I just did what I felt like! I actually like it, apart from the little finger, which I've been told looks like three boobs. Lovely. Here's another pic:

I'm happy with this one, mainly because it gave me the chance to let loose and come up with whatever I felt like at the time. Up until now, I've found some parts of this challenge really restricting, and it's nice to be able to do what I want!

Tomorrow, it's "Inspired by a Song" - this is HELL to choose, I have so many songs flying around in my head at any particular time. I'll have to get the thinking cap on again (or maybe I'll just let my shuffle pick one for me) - come by tomorrow to see what I settled on!

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 20

I'm just going to get straight to it, and show you the carnage. Here are the polishes I wasted:

L-R: Barry M Raspberry, LA Colors Atomic, Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream and Barry M Indigo.

Here's where I almost had a hernia:

And here's what I ended up with:

And inside (every bit as disgusting as it is outside):

UGH. On to tomorrow, which is the first of the "Inspired By" series - I've been really looking forward to these ones, can not wait to start coming up with ideas for them.

Have you tried water marbling? Fair play to you if you have, because I am NEVER doing it again.

Tag: The Movie of My Life.

I originally came across this a while ago over on this blog, and I've been sitting on it for a while, so I decided to whip out the iPod again after the last shuffle game I did gave me all kinds of joy. You pick your own cast, and then let your iPod or mp3 player choose your soundtrack. Be warned, I'm being very generous with my cast. It's my movie, I can lie if I want to. I also added a love interest, because himself was left out of the original idea. Awwwww, here goes!

You - Renee Zellwegger (she'd be handy for any fluctuating weight needs).
Mom - Bette Midler (the Mammy's favourite).
Dad - Tom Selleck (used to think he was my Dad on telly when I was about 3).
Sibling - Larisa Oleynik (the Sister always reminded me of her).
Neighbour - Channing Tatum (because it's my movie).
Best Friend - Mila Kunis (Mila, if you're looking for a creepy best friend, give me a shout).
Teacher - Stockard Channing (actually the spitting image of my most favourite teacher ever).
Inspirational Figure - Hah? Eh... Morgan Freeman (because he crops up everywhere, why not here?).
Bad Guy - Gerard Butler (very, very bad...)
Love Interest - Jared Leto (because himself reminded me of him the night we met & I love them both equally. Okay, maybe I love himself a bit more).
Comic Relief - Kevin James (just because).
Son - Brayden Coyer (Same eyes as my boy, and please don't arrest me for googling "7 year old male actors").
Daughter - None.
Foreign Exchange Student - None.
Boss - Richard Gere (Yes, I watched An Officer and a Gentleman last night...swoon).
Fun Coworker - Adam Sandler (see Morgan Freeman reason).
Witty Acquaintance - Matthew Perry (but his name would have to be Chandler, to quote a facebook group, I have a hard time accepting Friends characters in any other roles).
Cameo as his/herself - Mel Gibson (One day, Mel... one day...)
Narrator - Morgan Freeman (great multi-tasker, that Morgan)
Director - Tim Burton (because shit needs to get weird at some points).
Producer - Adam Sandler (because shit can't get too weird).
Screenplay - I'd give some unknown dude the break.
Score - Danny Elfman (can't have Tim without Danny).

Quite the movie, no? Here's what my movie poster would look like, if I allowed a 6 year old to create it in Paint:

Now, for the fun part: Stick your music player on shuffle and let it pick your movie soundtrack. NO CHEATING! Will it be an embarrassing mish-mash of Adam Rickitt and S Club Juniors (yes, they're on there somewhere), or a smash-hit Adele/Florence and the Machine chart-topper? Let's find out (I am putting far too much thought into this, I know).

Opening Credits - Jedward - [Lipstick]. Kill me now.
Waking Up - The Wanted - [The Weekend]. I love The Wanted, I have no problem admitting that.
First Day at School - Swedish House Mafia - [Save the World]. High expectations there, all that happened on my first day at school was a bee sting.
Falling in Love - Eminem ft Rihanna - [Love the Way You Lie]. That's about right!.
Fight Song - Ash - [Oh Yeah]. If Hugh Grant and Colin Firth can have Geri Halliwell, I can have Ash.
Breaking Up Song - Ed Sheeran - [You Need Me, I Don't Need You]. Hahahaha! THIS GAME ROCKS.
Prom - Def Leppard - [Let's Get Rocked]. I want to go to that Prom, immediately.
Life - Professor Green ft Emeli Sande - [Read All About It]. This is starting to turn into another 8 mile.
Breakdown - Lady Gaga - [Born This Way]. Excellent choice, shuffle. Excellent choice.
Driving - Ricky Martin - [She Bangs]. No comment.
Flashback - Dead or Alive - [You Spin Me Round]. You'd know Adam Sandler was producing this, wouldn't you?
Getting Back Together - The Saturdays - [All Fired Up]. Apparently we get back together in a shitty niteclub.
Wedding - Enrique Iglesias - [Tonight (Explicit Version)] - Could you imagine if we had this as our actual wedding song - "come on up for the first dance" - "ooooohhhhh tonight I'm f*cking you...". I'm half tempted.
Birth of Child - Kelly Clarkson - [You Love Me]. It's a bit jolly, but it's alright. I've never actually heard this song before, no idea when I put it on here.
Final Battle - Aloe Blacc - [I Need a Dollar]. Oof. That doesn't bode well.
Death Scene - Lady Gaga ft Beyoncé - [Telephone]. Yes, that's right. I'm not able to answer the telephone. AND I NEVER WILL BE.
Funeral Song - The Cure - [Friday I'm in Love]. Totally appropriate funeral song. Totally.
End Credits - Sak Noel - [Loca People (Explicit)]. What the f*ck indeed.

So there you have it, folks. I think the end credit song says it all! Let me know if you decide to do this, I'd love to read it!

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 19

Today was the one that I was dreading the most (apart from tomorrow), but here it is: Galaxy nails.

First, I painted my nails with two coats of Sally Hansen Midnight in NY, and then sat looking into my baskets of nail polish for an hour, trying to figure out where to start first. In the end, I just grabbed any galaxy-ish polish I could, and trotted off up to the sitting room to make a stab at this while watching the amazing cheese-fest that is Christmas 24. Here's what I ended up bringing, possibly the largest amount of colours I've ever used just for one manicure:

L-R: Sally Hansen (Midnight in NY), Essence (Blue Addicted), Chit Chat (no name), L.A. Colors (Current), Essence (Choose Me), Essence (Underwater), Essie (Blanc), Essence (Where is the Party), L.A. Colors (Mega Watt), Essence (Nail Tip Pen) and missing from pic - Essence (Sundancer - yellow).

I don't have any make-up sponges, so I got an ordinary washing-up sponge and chopped a lump off it, then got sponging - I think I sponged in the order that the polishes are lined up, but I'm not sure - to be honest, I just kept whacking colour over colour and when I was happy(ish) with it, I used the nail pen to dot on some white bits. To represent whatever the white bits are meant to represent. Here's what I ended up with:

I forgot to put the yellow on, so I did that afterwards:

And in the words of George Michael, let's go outside:

As per, it looks a lot more interesting in real life - there are lots of different little glitters and sparkles here and there. This was my first time trying Galaxy nails, and I'm not over the moon (HA!) with how it turned out - but if you want a top-notch guide to doing a Galaxy mani properly, then head over to Cherry Sue's Blog, where you'll find a fab step-by-step guide to doing a proper one.

Now - to relax and take deep breaths before even contemplating tomorrow's challenge, I knew that bloody water marbling would come back to haunt me after the last time.

Better go make sure I have some tape.....

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 18

Time for half moons! Now, I know that usually on this day of the challenge, people do the standard half-moon mani, with the little crescent either at the top or bottom. But I didn't want to do that. Partially, because I wanted to something different, but mostly because I have no nail tip stickers left. Judging by the way the rainbows turned out, I wasn't about to attack this freehand. UNTIL..... I remembered my trusty Essence nail tip pen.

So, I give you, my literal interpretation of the half-moon mani:

Little half moons! I like them, I don't know how they ended up crackly but I really like them. For the base, or the starry sky, I used a random black polish from my stash and a coat of the Chit-Chat glitter one I mentioned in a post a while back. I sponged on a tiny bit of matte grey polish from Claire's to form the clouds, and I added the half moons with the Essence pen. I love it!

Here's an inside shot:

I was really happy with the way it turned out, and it's definitely something I'll try and do better in the future. Tomorrow, it's one I'm absolutely dreading, the galaxy manicure. I'm half tempted just to paint my nails brown  in honour of Galaxy chocolate, but I shall do it properly and get spongin'.

Until then,

Saturday Night Song #13

Okay, I haven't watched telly in over a week, and I have to say it hasn't bothered me in the slightest. It hasn't bothered me to the point that I'm not even going to bother getting Saorview for my little telly in the kitchen, I'm just going to keep it there for watching DVDs. Why the turnaround, you ask? Well, I recently discovered that I can get Nova 100 on the stereo in the kitchen if I stick the aerial to the wall in a certain place (this all sounds ridiculous, I know, just skip on down to the song if you want!) with a lump of blu-tack. Happy days! I'm so sick of hearing the same crap over and over again on other radio stations, I've been turned off "We Found Love" due to a daily overdose of it on other stations. I've gone into fangirl mode again, I know, but words cannot describe how much I love this radio station. To the point where, as I mentioned on twitter during the week, if this station was a person I'd be madly in love with them. I love it THAT much.

It has also reminded me of something else - every Saturday night (or on the ones I've remembered) when I sit down to do my SNS, I always sit there thinking "will anybody like this? Is this popular? What if nobody likes it? What if people think I'm weird?" - you know what? If you like it, brilliant. If you don't, could you point me in the direction of something you like to listen to on a Saturday night, because I love finding new music and I'll listen to anything.

With the above in mind, here's my crack:

Have a great Saturday Night,

S xx

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 17

I love glitter, I really do. I love glitter shoes, glitter tops, glitter bags, glitter socks, glitter eyeshadow, glitter anything - but I HATE the fallout. With nail polish, unless you're using nail glitters, then the fallout is minimal (if any) - it's the removal process that inspires me to curse like never before. If you're the same, then stay tuned, because I may have found something you might be interested in.

For this, I used Models Own Magenta Devine, which is an amazing colour. What isn't amazing though, is this list of ingredients found on the Models Own site. Come on lads, isn't it time to change the formula?

Anyway, here's the polish. Actually, does anyone else agree that you can nearly tell immediately which polishes aren't 3-free just from the smell? This one always makes me dizzy, it's got such a strong overwhelming chemical smell.

Here's an inside one, alongside my favourite bag - (it used to be the Mammy's going-out bag in the '70s):

The top picture is a fairly accurate representation of the colour IRL - it's a little more pink, but you can see that side of it in the indoor picture. Of course, I decided that this wasn't glittery enough, so slapped on a coat of a W7 gold glitter on top of it.

Ahhhhhhh... that's better! But.... *gasp*....what now. How do I get it off? The last time I wore this Models Own polish was the first and only time - it was absolute murder to remove. It left stains and glitter everywhere, and I used a half bottle of nail polish remover and far too many cotton pads, buds, and bits of tin foil (the tin foil method might be effective, but I just don't have the patience for it). This time? I used one little pad, for all of about ten seconds, gave my nails a good scrub with it, and tah-da!! Behold the thumb (bearing in mind that this was covered in  4 coats of the Models Own and 1 of the W7, all dry):

The secret weapon? These babies:

One pad per nail, (a pot of 15 cost me €2.29) and the little bit of residue left over washed off under the tap. AND, they didn't leave my nails all dry or feeling yucky afterwards like some other pads. Hallelujah!!! Thank you Boots!!! Trust me - grab a pot of these and have them in your stash if you plan on wearing glitter polish over Christmas, I had all five nails clean before Jon Bon Jovi got to the second verse of 'Livin' on a Prayer'. Amazeballs.

See ye tomorrow, for *runs to check again, remind self to write these challenges down properly, tis getting ridiculous* Half Moons? Okay then.....

Well, okay, I thought for one second "aww, I wish I could give them all a prize!" and then remembered that I am not, in fact, minted. Sorry :(

But huge, huge thank you to all who took the time to enter and tweet - if you want to unfollow me on twitter now, feel free, I'm a bit sweary, I know. Anyway.... you're all here for one reason. To find out who has won this gorgeous beast of a polish:

I'll be in touch to get your details, congratulations!

I also want to thank everyone for having the patience to read my ramblings, for leaving lovely comments, and for all your good wishes over the past week - this blog, to me, is somewhere where I can really let rip and be myself, and that's not a side of myself I like to share with people I know in real life. I appreciate it every single time one of you reads it, and I'm very, very grateful. Thank you xxx

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 16

Today is tribal day - one I wasn't looking forward to, because I knew it would call for me to do some kind of freehand drawing on my nails, and as we are all well aware at this stage, that ain't my strong point.

After looking around for a bit of inspiration, I came across a cross-stitch book that I picked up a few years ago. I've made a few bookmarks from it before, and I love the colours. This is the book:

That counts as tribal, right? I hope so! Anyway, I picked a few polishes that I thought would go well together, and my Essence nail tip painter (a godsend), which is meant for french manicures, but seeing as I despise french manicures, I use it for nail art. I really have to pick up some more nail art pens in other colours, any recommendations? Here are the polishes:

L-R: Essence XXXL Multi Dimension in 'Spicy', Catrice LE in 'Miracle Heaven', Barry M 'Raspberry', Catrice LE in 'Spiced Bronze', Essence 'Sundancer' and the Essence pen. Here's the look I came up with:

Smudged thumb cleverly (ahem) disguised with the URL there or what.... My lines are still dodgy, but I really like how this turned out, I wasn't expecting it to turn out remotely well. It actually looks a lot better in real life, dang that camera, it picks up every wobble. Here's an inside/outside comparison shot:

And an attempt at a very tribal arty-type thing with a rock:

I like it, wobbly lines and all. Tomorrow, it's *goes to check* oh no. Glitter. The thoughts of having to take it off.........

Until tomorrow!

A Letter to Me.

I was recently invited to a school reunion. "Go," said himself. "You'll have a great night."

Props if you know what movie this is from!
Are you WELL? My last two years of school were atrocious. The minute I opened the card, my stomach turned. I immediately turned into 17-year-old me again - that insecure, self-conscious, muddled-up little me. The girls I went to school with seem to have completely different memories to me - they remember the nights out, the craic at lunchtime, the craic on the bus. I remember the nights out that I wasn't allowed to go to, the sitting on my own at lunchtime, and the long bus rides home with my walkman and a tape of stuff I taped off the radio the night before. I wasn't popular, I wasn't pretty, boys had zero interest in me, I didn't have the nice clothes or the money to go out shopping on a Saturday. I had my room (my sanctuary), my notebooks and diaries, my music, and the best little sister anyone on this earth could ever wish to be blessed with. I don't want to go back there, to be bombarded with 1,000 "So what are you doing now?" questions. You weren't one damn bit interested in what I did back then, so what's changed?

With this in mind, I decided to to a letter to 17-year-old me - I've seen loads of these before, but I've never actually done one. Here we go.

Dear Sharon:

This will be hard to believe, but you'll believe it. This is 28-year-old you, writing to you because you need to know a few things. Firstly, I know you feel like you have no friends, but your best friend is already living with you. Don't be a bitch to your sister, she doesn't deserve it and she doesn't understand why you can be so dismissive of her sometimes. She'll tell you one day that all she wanted as a child was to be just like you, so give her a break. You have a lot more in common than you think you do. Talk to her more.
Next, don't worry about not fitting in at school - in a few years time, you'll realise that you're comfortable with who you are, and you don't want to be the same as 'all the other girls'. Your time will come. In fact, you'll do a lot better relationship-wise than you might think, and you'll be exactly where you are supposed to be by the time you're 21. Go out on the 13th of November 2003, it's an important night. Don't miss it, it changes your life for the better in every possible way.
You think your music taste is weird - it's not, it's stuff you'll still be listening to in 10 years, but just don't attach so much memories to every single song you listen to, or you'll drive yourself mad. All those hours you spend singing in your room? Get your Mum to teach you to play the guitar instead. You have loads of time now to do it, it's something you'll always love, and you might find it hard to make time for it in the future.
Mind your teeth. It is NEVER a good idea to ride a bicycle through potholes "for the craic" in your bare feet. Don't do that.
Keep up your typing practice. I know you hate it, but it's something that you're going to use a lot in the future. Also, when E offers to teach you to drive, for god sake, let him. This will be the one thing you regret not doing. Learn now.
You'll have your heart broken, but you'll recover and you need to go through that to recognize a good thing when you see it. You'll also discover that you're a smart, independent girl who can look after herself - but don't be so intent on refusing help. Swallow your pride a little more and stop rebelling. You don't need to do that.
Don't worry about school - do your own thing and stay strong. You'll do fine.
Keep up your writing, you'll always love it.
Keep all your Spectacular nail polish, they're going to be discontinued.

Love, Sharon x

PS: That packet of fags that M left in the wardrobe - DON'T YOU DARE smoke them. Throw them out, burn them now. Never buy any more.
PPS: Stop pretending that you hate kids, everyone knows that you love them and want your own.
PPPS: Your first instincts about people are usually bang-on. Trust them.
PPPPS: You and your sister think you're both ugly and have no self confidence. You both turn out pretty okay, but you won't if you keep eating rubbish in your room. Stop with the crisps, k?

Love you Sis xxx

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 15

[sarcasmfont] Ahh, the one I've been most looking forward to. [/sarcasmfont]

Delicate. Delicate what? Delicate flowers? Delicate china? Delicate fluffy things? I actually google imaged the word 'delicate' to see if I could come up with something (it was no help whatsoever), because I couldn't think of one single thing and I had this stuck in my head on a loop:

I tried to pick out my most 'delicate' colour - a baby pink from W7 (I think it's just called baby pink, the label is missing) and then I spied the Konad nail art stickers that I bought a while back - wham bam, thank you Konad.

This is what I came up with:

The polish is so shiny that I managed to pick my own reflection up in the thumbnail. I just had this one finished when I had an Oprah lightbulb moment. FEATHERS. Feathers are delicate. So, I did what any normal person would do - took the lot off and did a feather one too.

I know, I know. I don't know what that thing on my thumb is. A dandelion clock? I don't know. For this, I used an Essence white nail tip pen and Essence XXXL Multi-Dimension polish in Movin' on.

Tomorrow is... hang on, what's tomorrow? I really should have written all these challenges down on something other than a scrap of an envelope. (Edit: Tomorrow = Tribal Print)

Which one do you prefer? Or are they both rank?

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 14, Take Two

Finally, I'm back to feeling (somewhat) normal again, so today, I bring you flowers!

And, I even managed to get a decent daylight picture for the first time in almost a week. I know, I'm awesome. For this one, I wanted to revisit a mani that I used to do all the time when I was at school - our Secondary (High) school was strict on jewellery and piercings, but surprisingly lax on nail polish. The little flower mani was my favourite one to do, and I hadn't done it in years. For this, I picked three polishes: A base coat of Sally Hanson Complete Manicure in 'Midnight in NY', Essence 'Shiny Godness' and L.A. Colors 'Electrified' (which has fast become my favourite pink since receiving it in a swap with the lovely Esther last week, thank you!). For dotting, I couldn't find my dotting tool so I used an ordinary hair pin, just stretch it out.  Here's a bottle pic:

I used two coats of the Sally Hansen, waited patiently for it to dry (read: ran around the kitchen flapping my hands because I couldn't find my Insta-Dri, sang along to the radio, joined in with some enthusiastic Adele-esque hand movements, ruined three fingers, restarted, and then sat like a bold child and watched some of an America's Next Top Model repeat until they were dry). When they were finally dry, I used my home-made dotter to dot on 3 drops of pink onto each nail, and then 5 drops of gold. Here's the finished look:

And a closer look:

And finally, the inside/outside comparison:

You can really see the sparkle in the Sally Hansen polish in the outside shot - I love it, and their brushes are FANTASTIC. I wish every polish had brushes like Sally - the world would be a better place, I tells ya. This combo reminded me of that oriental phase that everyone seemed to go through in the late 90s/early 2000s - it reminds me of a kimono nightgown that my sister used to have.

Like it? Hate it? I haven't a clue what I'm going to do for the 'delicate' challenge tomorrow, but I'll come up with something.

Thanks for reading, and if you haven't entered my O.P.I GIVEAWAY, then what are you waiting for? Everyone who enters is in with up to three chances to win a full-sized bottle of Rainbow Connection from the recent Muppets collection. I know, I'm too good to ye.

P.S: Thanks a million for all your good wishes, much appreciated xxx

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 13

Animal print! I'm cheating. This is a scheduled post, because if things go to plan, I am currently relaxing after our party last night. Or, if things went REALLY well, I'm not finished partying yet :)

A while back, I did a post for a little girl who loves nail polish, you can read it HERE, and here's the look I came up with for that:

Seeing as I had a party last night and I really, really wanted to wear my new glitter polish but really, really didn't want to have to take it off the very next day, I planned ahead and turned this multicoloured polka dot mani into an animal print one. Hope this qualifies!

This was my first time trying leopard print, and I'd definitely do it again, I really like the effect.

Polishes used for this look were Essence Sundancer (yellow), Essence Underwater (blue) and Glo Baby Glo pink (from Penneys/Primark).

Until tomorrow peeps,

S xx

Saturday Night Song #12

Hello! If scheduled posting works for me today, then you should be seeing this on Saturday evening - if not, then god knows what day it is.

Most of you know that I got engaged a few weeks ago to the love of my life (or the past 8 years anyway haha) - this is our song. Tonight's our engagement party, so without getting all girlified & mushy, I'll just let you listen to this brilliant song and say this:

Love you forever P xxx

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 12

Hey guys! Today it's stripes, and ANOTHER bloody bad daylight day.

Today, I had an epiphany. Stripes are HARD. I really wanted to do something with Essence's Choose Me (below)because I hadn't used it yet, but the black just wouldn't take to it properly, it kept leaking and peeling!

I tried with both a thin and thick brush, but it didn't turn out great, as you can see:

The main reason I got the Essence polish was because I've recently discovered that it's a bang-on dupe for one of my wish-list polishes, Zoya Charla. You can see the comparison below, courtesy of

I got so annoyed with it that I took the whole lot off and started again, this time with a no-name silver matte polish from Claire's and a random black.

It's still a bit wonky, and it STILL leaked, but to be honest lads n lasses I couldn't face doing it a third time! I think this is something I'm going to practice in the meantime, and maybe return to it towards the end of the challenge when I can incorporate it into one of the "Inspired By" challenges.

Sorry for the let-down this time folks, but onwards and upwards for tomorrow - animal print!

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 11

Hey guys, it's day 11 of the challenge, and that means polka dots. Once again, I had NO daylight to work with by the time I got the chance to do these today, so here you are - polishes used were Essence Fatal and a pink Missguided one that was free with Cosmopolitan a few months ago:

And then I made them matte with an Essence matte topcoat:

Oh, I did the dots with a cotton bud (q-tip) - I find nail dotters too small :)

See you tomorrow for stripes, hopefully with better lighting too!!

31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Day 10

Hey hey, it's day 10 of the challenge (already!) and this means it has to be gradient nails. I've tried gradient nails before, but I've always done them from dark to light (which makes NO sense), so this time I remembered to do them in the proper direction. Lack of daylight is becoming a huge issue for me lately - I don't always get a chance to paint my nails during actual daylight hours so I'm afraid these pictures are all indoors much like most of the previous ones - apologies!

For this one, I picked pink, and here are the colours I used:

L-R: W7 'Baby Pink', LA Colors 'Electrified' (from a recent swap with the lovely Esther over at Fab Fingertips, post to follow soon), Rimmel 60 Seconds Vinyl Stars 'Be a Star', and Essence 'Space Queen'.

I'm going a day ahead of myself with this challenge at the minute, because I've a few things coming up at the weekend and I know if I don't pre-prepare then I won't do these posts, and I really don't want to miss one! So, apologies once more about the poor lighting, this was yesterday evening.

And another one:

First I used the w7 all over my nail, then I sponged on some of the LA Colours, Rimmel, and finally a coat of the Essence all over. I really like this one, and I will probably do it again in the future. I'd love to see a grey/black version!

See you tomorrow for polka dots,

S xx
