The MAC Lipstick Tag & MAC Haul

I was tagged by lovely Aisling from Total Makeup Addict (also one of my greatest enablers) to do this MAC lipstick tag, so I decided to tie it together with a few of the new MAC bits & bobs I picked up recently.

Firstly, the tag. You can read Aisling's post here.

The MAC Lipstick Tag

Firstly, you can check out swatches and reviews of all my MAC lipsticks in this post.

1. What was your first MAC lipstick?
It was Shy Girl, and it was a gift from my lovely friend Karie who did my makeup for my wedding in 2012.

2. What was your most recent MAC lipstick acquisition?
After trying to do this tag last week and realising I didn't have a red, I bought Russian Red. It would have been unfair for it to travel from Brown Thomas on its own, so it was kindly joined by two from the MAC is Beauty collection - Make Me Gorgeous and Call The Hairdresser. They bring my total up to 14 - this time last year I had one...

3. What is your favourite MAC lipstick?
At the minute, it's Call The Hairdresser from the MAC is Beauty collection. It's an Amplified one, which is my favourite finish, and it's very wearable. Overall, I think I'd choose either Faux or Viva Glam II. Or Brave.

4. What MAC lipstick do you think does it all?
If I'm in a hurry and I have to grab one, I grab Brave. It's a gorgeous shade that looks different depending on the lipliner, it's a Satin finish, and it's a really lovely colour.

5. Do you always wear lipliners with MAC lipsticks?
Not always, but I have been wearing Edge to Edge liner an awful lot under lipstick recently. I also love Stripdown, Soar and Whirl. Non-MAC ones that I love are NYX Mauve, Peekaboo Neutral, Rimmel's Eastend Snob, Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk and Essence Satin Mauve.

6. What's your favourite finish in a MAC lipstick and why?
I love the Amplified ones, I love how they look, how creamy they feel, how they don't dry my lips out, and how they last ages. I love the look of Matte ones but they're so drying on me. I really like Satin too.

7. Have you ever repurchased a MAC lipstick?
No,  but I strongly thought about repurchasing Faux because mine fell out of the bullet. I know people depot them all the time but I don't like lipstick in pots, I prefer the bullet. Thankfully with the help of a lighter and a bit of a push, she is at home in her bullet once more. I think I would have bought another one if it hadn't worked.

8. Do you regret buying any MAC lipsticks?
I think Hue may have been a bit of a waste of money. The Glaze finish is quite strange and it's not a lipstick I've reached for very often because it doesn't seem to last long on my lips. I do like it - but it's probably the one I've used the least. Velvet Teddy can be a nightmare when my lips are dry but I don't think I regret buying it - it has probably made me take a little more care of my lips and include them in my night routine!

9. What is your favourite nude/pink/red MAC lipstick?
My favourite nude is Patisserie.
My favourite pink is Cosmo.
My favourite red is Russian Red.

10. What MAC lipstick is on your shopping list?

I want something from the upcoming collaboration with Giambattista Valli - I love the look of Margherita (the first one in the picture) but I'm not sure if it's too bright for me to pull off. You can have a look at swatches on Temptalia here.

Recent MAC Purchases

I wanted to get something from the Wash and Dry collection and had the sculpting powder in my head - when I saw Karen's review I knew I had to have it, so I ordered it from House of Fraser along with a couple of Urban Decay bits and a MAC lipliner (Boldly Bare). From Brown Thomas I ordered the three lipsticks I mentioned earlier - Russian Red, Make Me Gorgeous and Call The Hairdresser along with a Fluidline from the MAC is Beauty collection in the shade Looking Good.

I got the face sculpt powder in the shade Delicates:

Fluidline in Looking Good:

I got this more for the Autumn months, but I wasn't sure if it was Limited Edition or permanent and was afraid I wouldn't be able to get it in a few months time. I know that Fluidline is intended as a liner, and it's lovely, but I also love a tiny dot of it blended out as a cream eyeshadow (white mark on my nose courtesy of my glasses):

Lipsticks in Make Me Gorgeous:

Russian Red:

And Call The Hairdresser:

I also got a lipliner in the shade Boldly Bare:

I'm really happy with my purchases, and thank you Aisling for the lipstick tag!

I'd love to know if you've bought anything nice from MAC recently or if you've something on your wishlist.

  1. LOVE this tag! I'm with you on Hue, it's nice but just don't love it and wish I'd chosen a different shade I would've got more use out of!

    1. It's sinful to leave it sitting there but I think it's the finish, it's just not a whole pile to look at on the lips! Maybe I might try it with a few different liner combos and see if I can get it looking more impressive x

  2. Oooh, you look gorgeous! Your brows are perfect. I plucked one last night, got distracted and will now be going around like a lopsided weirdo until I've time to fix the other. Welp.

I think I might copy you on this one, love and old-school tag post.

    1. Thank you Lorraine, Ms. Anastasia of Beverley Hills and her dipbrow pomade lend me a good hand in the mornings!! I'm sure yours are perfect, lopsided or not! Please do, I love reading other people's answers to tags x

  3. I love this post! What a great haul, I too love MAC and want a lot of the same products!

    1. Thank you so much for reading and for your lovely comment x

  4. WOOHOO awesome tag and EVEN more awesome haul! MAC lipsticks are like rabbits, they start breeding amongst themselves, you open your drawer and then BANG you've got dozens, hey presto! ;) Your skin is perfection and I absolutely love Make Me Gorgeous on you! You do hauls like no other Sharon :) x

    1. Thanks so much Aisling, and thanks again for thinking of me with the tag! They DO breed, they're taking over... I think all makeup does it, one day you're sitting there and your entire collection is in a small Heatons basket, next thing you've two Helmers filled and still, it doesn't stop....... xx
