The New Boy Next Door

Essence and Catrice are notorious for releasing different versions of polish under the same name - and they've done it again. I was in Penneys the other day and spotted an Essence polish I hadn't seen before, a royal blue with shimmer in it. When I looked at the label, I saw that it was called 'The Boy Next Door' - but it was a completely different colour to the one I already have of the same name. I bought a bottle so I could compare the two.

Left: New Version. Right: Old Version.

As you can see, they're completely different colours. The top one is the old version, a medium blue creme. The bottom one is the new version, the formula reminds me a lot of Catrice's  "Blues Brothers Vol. II". I don't know why they didn't give the new one a different name - other brands seem to continuously release similar shades with different names (coughOPIcough).

As you can see, they're very different. I do like the new version, but I loved the creme finish on the old one. I'm going to have a closer look at the Essence stand next time to see if they've changed any other polishes.

  1. Ohh I have the creme one, and had been admiring the shimmer one too. Did not realise they had the same name. Maybe the boy next door became a sparkly vampire and thats why he is shimmery?

  2. That is so irritating! How are people meant to recommend colours to others etc if they keep releasing new colours with the same name!? Ridiculous! I have never even noticed this before, good observation!

  3. How peculiar - I do like both of them a lot though!

  4. They are two different polishes, I'm sure they could come up with a different name!

  5. That is so funny! OPI did this a few years ago with My Private Jet too. You would wonder why...

  6. That's so odd they would change a polish like that; Giving the new one a new name would just increase their list of colours which is never a bad thing!. I think they are both beautiful but I prefer the old version!

  7. Spotters badge for you missy :) They're both nice I must say tho.. you'd think they woulda just christened it with a new name!! madness!
