I love topcoats. Glitter ones, holo ones, shiny ones, matte ones - I love 'em all. So, when O.P.I released their 18k Gold Leaf topcoat as a part of their recent 007 Bond Collection, I immediately lusted after it.

However. I may be somewhat daft when it comes to polish, but I'm not daft enough to pay 30 odd quid for one polish. Nope. Enter Catrice.
This is the Gold Leaf topcoat from the current "SpectaculART" Limited Edition. Now, it looks lovely. But it's not Gold Leaf. Not even near it. It's not even Gold Leaf's distant cousin. This is a glitter topcoat.
See? Not Gold Leaf. I was initially really disappointed with it, because I have so many glitters that I haven't even tried yet, and I don't need another one. I honestly wouldn't have bought it if I knew it'd just apply like a regular topper.
BUT. The application is probably the only reason why I'm actually kinda glad I did pick it up. It reminds me a lot of my purple glitter Pumpkin Polish, (reviewed HERE). It's incredibly thick, and gives amazing coverage in one little coat. One dip of the brush did four nails. It took a while to dry, but when it did, it wasn't lumpy or rough.
I used one coat over a Pumpkin Polish black.
I don't think it does, to be honest.
Verdict? A really nice glitter topper but definitely NOT Gold Leaf. Also, this appears to be either a repackage or a dupe for one of the Million Styles Topcoats (namely MIlion Dollar Baby) so if you missed out on that LE, then this is a nice topcoat to add to your collection. If you own Million Dollar Baby, you don't need this.
Ooh that's gorgeous... I know it's not gold leaf but it's so purty against that black base coat... Hmmmm
ReplyDeleteIt's a fab glitter topper, really super sparkly - still on the hunt for a leaf one!x
DeleteI've seen people make a gold leaf topcoat with some of the cheap gold leaf from bornprettystore. I think I want to try it with the silver leaf. I too have more sense to spend that much on a topcoat.
ReplyDeleteI must have a look for some of that gold leaf on eBay, I can't seem to find a nice cheap topcoat anywhere! Loads of them in the US :(
DeleteLove, love, love it!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice over the black, uber-sparkly!
DeleteAh pity you were a bit disappointed with this but it looks fab!
ReplyDeleteGutted it wasn't a proper gold leaf but still, it's a nice glitter to add to the ever-growing stash! x
DeleteIf only gold leaf top coats weren't so expensive... This is still really pretty though, and great about the full coverage! It's a pretty effect over polish :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to make a gold leaf one if I can't find a cheaper one than the OPI! It is a nice polish x
DeleteLove it! Love the color combos and the glitters. I find this mani so elegant and classy. I wanna try it out...
ReplyDeleteThanks Marie! I hope you like it x
DeleteI'm a big fan of a glitter topcoat too - this looks lovely even if inappropriately named!
ReplyDeleteIt is really nice as a glitter x
DeleteThis is a really good combination of colours! It's nice to see you're Irish too like me :)
