Octagon Augmented Reality Flashcards - Review

Products received for trial | Not Sponsored or Paid

Hi!

It's been a while, hasn't it? I don't think I even did a book round up for October. I haven't finished a book in ages, mainly due to opening an Etsy shop and being overwhelmingly and unexpectedly up to my eyeballs (which is great).

I was recently asked if I'd like to try out some Augmented Reality Flashcards with the kids, and having never tried anything like this before, I said yes. It seemed like a really interesting idea - you buy a pack of flashcards, then you download a free app, enter the serial number on your box of cards (each serial number can be used on three different compatible devices) and watch the cards come to life.

I was trying to find the best way to capture how deadly these really are (these are the Dinosaur 4D+ cards) but I can't find a really good way to capture it on my phone - I've got a few screenshots but they're so much better in reality, the sound alone is very impressive:

The dinosaurs roar and stomp on the cards, plus you get information about each type of dinosaur and get to see it doing different things. VR Mode is pretty cool too, you get to see some dinosaurs flying over your head.

Here's the official video:

There are fun facts included, you can swap between the dinosaur and the skeleton, plus learn loads about them - I actually played with them for ages on my own, but all three kids were fascinated (twins aged 3 and a 12 year old). I'm actually going to order the Space set too, I think my 12 year old will love seeing galaxies and planets.

There are Animal 4D+ cards as well - they use another free app, available in the app store. With the animal one, you get to feed the animals with the correct food card and see them interact and eat the different foods. These were brilliant fun too!

We were also sent a colouring book, where children can colour pictures of characters and then use the corresponding app (free) to make them come to life (we haven't used this yet, I'm saving it for a rainy day!)

The cards would make a really great stocking filler - they're really good value (under £10) and since this supplier is based in the UK, if you want them for Christmas then you have loads of time.

I received my cards from JassV (thank you!), and if you buy the cards here through his website you'll be able to avail of an exclusive 10% discount using the code SHARONLEAVY.

I just ordered the Space Pack and used my discount code to get them for just over £13 delivered to Ireland (€16). I think they're a really lovely product and something unique that would make a lovely Christmas present, I could see kids who are really into dinosaurs spending hours looking at the different ones.
