Hi!
If you haven't a clue what Ruffian Nails are, believe me you're not alone. I had to Google it when it came up as this week's Twinsie Tuesday prompt. It's essentially a reverse French Manicure, with the contrasting stripe of colour along the cuticle side instead of the tip. The technique is called Ruffian after it was used by CND for a fashion show by designers Ruffian at New York Fashion Week a few years ago.
I wanted to stick to Halloween colours so I used orange and black - Catrice Black to the Routes and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Firey Island (€1.49 in Dealz, people!). I used two coats of the orange, then topped with the black. If you like subtle, it would be fine like that, but I am not a lover of subtlety and wanted to bring all the tack I could. I put a dot of orange in the middle of each nail, then dragged it out like flames with a cocktail stick. I went in again with a dot of black when the orange had dried, and used Essence Gel Topcoat to seal it all up.
I do like it - it reminds me of Batman for some unknown reason?! I'm not necessarily a lover of the whole Ruffian look, but I'm happy enough with how it turned out.
If you have a few minutes, please check out the other Twinsies below to see what they did with the prompt this week!

DeleteTrue story had no idea what ruffian nails were... You've done an unreal job here. The colour scheme is fantastic 👌🏻 Siobhan xx
ReplyDeleteNope, nor me, I didn't have a clue how I was going to do them until I realised that it's just painting one colour on top of the other! Thanks Siobhan, had to keep it Halloweenie :D
DeleteLove this!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sara x
DeleteI love how each nail is different! This is such a different take on a needle drag that I've seen - very cool looking!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah! Needle drag is definitely something I want to try properly, it's fun :) x
DeleteSuch a fun ruffian design! It does kind of look like flames :)

ReplyDeleteThanks so much x
DeleteAwww...this is so pretty. Love the color combos and design. This surely is so perfect for Halloween.
ReplyDeleteI like your take on the ruffian - much more interesting than a plain ruffian.
ReplyDeleteFab halloween colours!
ReplyDeleteOh I thought they were little dementors! They look amazing. My Dealz doesn't nail polish. That Sally Hansen is one of the most popular ones. I hear so many people talking about it. x
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea <3 I want to try it one day ^^
