Super Facialist by Una Brennan Clay Mask Review

Hi!

I bought this mask after seeing it on Paula's blog a while ago. At just  €11.99 for 125ml from Boots, I figured that if it turned out to be a bit rubbish then I wouldn't feel too guilty.

The full title of this is - Super Facialist by Una Brennan Vitamin B3 Salicylic Acid Anti Blemish Pore Purifying Clay Mask. In all fairness.

Wordiness aside, what does this claim to do? Well, it apparently clears your skin of dirt, excessive oils and toxins which lead to breakouts. The Salicylic Acid is reported to help unclog congested skin, plus it contains vitamin-laden Avocado oil and skin super-ingredient Niacin. Not to mention a good whack of dead sea mud too. There's also some Shea Butter in here, and a range of other extracts from Elderflower to Ylang Ylang.

The instructions say to use it twice a week, by applying a generous even layer to a thoroughly cleansed face and neck. The consistency is smooth, you'll find no bits of weeds in here like in certain other masks. There's a lovely scent off it too, it's not overpowering but it smells very fresh and clean. Another positive for me is the packaging - the tube is great, much more hygenic than sticking your fingers in a pot.

It sets after a few minutes, it wasn't rock hard but it was hard enough to make me want to do a big cat yawn (most masks make me want to do that).

Here's a look at it almost dry (I was a bit too generous around the cheeks):

The first time I used this, I left it on for around 10 minutes which was far too long. My forehead started to itch and I couldn't wait to wash it off. After having another quick read of the instructions, I left it on for 5 minutes the next time, and had no itching issues. It washed off really easily, it didn't turn into a big mess, nor did it rub off onto my facecloth in lumps. Crucially - my face didn't feel tight after rinsing it off.

That was a new one for me - most masks make me run for moisturiser afterwards, but this was as if I'd just had some really lovely facial treatment.

It's a definite winner for me, I've used it four times now over three weeks and I'll continue to use it regularly. I haven't had any major blemish issues lately, but I'm not sure if I can credit the mask with that. It just makes my face feel really fresh. And clean.

I would definitely recommend picking this up if you see it, it's really nice and it's a lovely treat that doesn't cost a fortune.

  2. Oh this is definitely going on my Boots list. I love face masks but some dry my skin out way too much. This sounds perfect. Your skin looks amazing, so smooth and flawless x

    1. Thanks Róisín, I promise you it's not amazing at all at the minute, acting up no end! I liked this mask for that exact reason, it didn't leave me feeling like I'd had a facelift x

  3. Thanks for the mention, Sharon. It's a lovely mask, so glad you liked it.

Good choice with the Chandler pic! I swear companies have some kind of competition going to see who can come up with the longest product name!

  4. Ah, I would have given you my tube! It wasn't for me, not nearly strong enough. Didn't notice much cleansing at all.

    1. Oh shite, hate when something doesn't live up to expectations! It was definitely enough for me, I find a lot of them tear the face off me.

  5. Totally laughed at the Chandler picture! I have yet to try Una Brennan products but face masks can be good places to start.

    1. There's a cleansing oil in the range that's really good, the packaging is a pain in the arse and it really, really needs a pump - but it's good!

  6. I need to pull this back out again and give it another try. I found it slightly drying, but much better than the stuff with the weeds

    1. I genuinely think that if your skin is not overly problematic then the stuff with the weeds is too strong. My sister found it great after a bad breakout but when I've used it on mild spots it does nothing, dries me out more. Such a waste of money!!
