Marc by Marc Jacobs Studded Mouse Flats (Suede)

Hi!

I am 31 years of age, and to date, I have never had a really good pair of shoes. Even my wedding shoes were a €40 pair from Littlewoods. I'm the Queen of Penneys ballet flats - I must have bought ten pairs last year. Between those and the plimsolls they do, I find myself throwing shoes out come Christmas every year because they wear at the seams so quickly.

I was browsing one evening when I came across the website farfetch.com, an online collection of over 300 boutiques worldwide. They carry over a thousand brands from Alexander McQueen to Rodarte, Moschino to Dolce & Gabbana, Isabel Marant to Versace - every designer you could think of. There's a huge sale on at the moment, up to 50% off.

Marc Jacobs caught my eye immediately - I have countless pairs of his signature mouse ballet flats in my eBay watch list at any given time. They always seem to go for really high prices on eBay, and my size seems to be difficult to find (I'm a 6).

When I saw the black suede studded flats in my size, on sale for half their usual price, I dithered. I left it for a few days, went back again and had another look. That went on for nearly two weeks, until eventually I just thought feck it, we're not going on holiday this year, I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't go to the hairdressers, I don't eat takeaways anymore, I rarely buy a magazine, I don't go on nights out, I don't go to the cinema, I don't get my nails done, I don't do big Penneys or Boots hauls anymore, I don't buy clothes too often, I don't get facials (this justification process is long, but effective) so I did it. I bought them for €140, and paid another €18 for delivery from France via DHL. I feel sick even writing that, but if I added up the cost of all the rubbish I bought in Penneys last year I guarantee you it would be at least double that, and I've nothing to show for it. These shoes........they're just...........sigh.

The order came packed in a big brown sturdy cardboard box that can be turned inside out to make a white storage box. Inside, the shoes were packed in their own shoebox. They came with a dust bag too.

They ping!

The studs are much more sparkly than I thought they would be, which I was delighted about. The size 6 (or 39 EU) is perfect on me, not tight at all, actually there's room for a ballet slipper sock if I wanted to wear one. They're really comfortable, they're adorable, they make me smile every time I look at my feet and I really, really don't want to take them off. Ever.

I think it's love.

  2. They're beautiful! And yes, feck it, no harm in treating yourself, especially if you're not spending money willy nilly on other things. You buy others beautiful presents, I know you'd rather buy stuff for others than yourself, so you totally deserve these! And I'm sure you'll take care of them too :)

  3. Beautiful! You deserve a treat, never mind the guilt! There are people buying these like they're socks.

I'm a divil for Penneys shoes too. My parents give out to me, my boyfriend gives out to me, and I still buy them. I'm a size for but need wide fit - only Clarks, Penneys and New Look cater to me. Penneys wins out because it kills me to shell out 40 quid for everyday shoes, but I really should invest in something with support. Penneys ones fall apart so fast!

    1. Thanks Lorraine! I think it's like a combination of Irish guilt and Mammy guilt, like I should be walking round in a potato sack scrabbling for scraps for the childer. Anyway! Oh Penneys lure me in so often, I bought 3 or 4 pairs in one go last year and they were all fecked by Christmas. I have a good pair of runners and some boots, but that's it now, not going to buy any more of their ballet flats.
