#SBBC Day 17 - Overhyped Products

Hi!

There are a few products I don't get the hype about - most of them are lip products, some tanning products, some shampoos, mascaras, some perfumes, etc - but I understand that most of that stuff is down to an individual choice and may work on one person but not another. Skincare and perfumes, shampoos and even tans - they're all personal products that react differently from person to person. Bearing that in mind, there is just one product that wins my award for the most overhyped product in existence. I suspect that you may be seeing this on a few blogs today!

I couldn't wait to get my hands on the infamous Maybelline Baby Lips when I heard it would be released in Ireland and the UK. I ordered mine on eBay - I got the anti-oxidant berry one. I don't know what I was expecting - the lips of Angelina Jolie, the baby soft lips of a pouty vixen, or just an improvement in condition - but I got none of the above. This, to me, felt no different to the Chapstick I used when I was in school. It felt waxy, hard, and didn't improve the condition of my lips in any way at all. I don't like it, I was majorly disappointed with it, and I won't be repurchasing it. I can't understand why it's become such a cult product, I really can't.

It would take one hell of a lip product to tear me away from my holy grail one - and Baby Lips isn't a patch on it.

  1. I didn't know that babies use petrolatum on their lips, Maybelline? Boo to this stupid, over-hyped chemical-laden mess, eh? x

    1. Hahaha!!!! Ridiculous, they really did a great job with their ad campaigns because the bloody things have taken off like wildfire but they're beyond useless! x

  2. It's funny because I was dying to get my hands on these too. I saw them in town a while ago and was torturing myself which one to get until I remembered that ultimately, they're only lip balms (something I have loads of already) and didn't bother getting any at all!

    1. Good woman, I definitely don't recommend them, absolute crap! The power of blogging and social media, I never would have bought it only for the fact that I thought it was going to be the best lip product ever! x

    1. They're awful, the only people they'd suit are people who already have lovely soft non-chapped lips! x

    1. I actually liked the packaging, thought it was kinda cool & 80s, but it's so crap it wouldn't matter if it came in a 24k gold case. Seriously.

  5. Is it just me or there are a lot of Maybelline products that are overhyped. They do have some good and some really great products but then again there are those like Baby Lips that everyone is talking about like they are gold but they are nothing special.

    1. I definitely agree, every so often something comes along that people go mad for, but they've come up with nothing you can't get already!

  6. Thanks for confirming what I was thinking. I must admit, I was nearly suckered into buying some of these, but I figured they would be just like labello or any other run of the mill chap stick.

    1. They're terrible. I'd actually say labello or chapstick would be better!

  8. Snap, I definitely don't think this is anything special, and I haven't heard of anyone loving it! Who does love this?!

    1. I actually have no clue. I kept seeing it in haul posts or favourites of the month, I cannot fathom how it could work for some people when it obviously doesn't work for so many others! x
