First Ever MUA Order

Hi!

As I'm sure you know, MUA are a makeup brand available in the UK and Ireland both online and in branches of Superdrug. As I don't have a Superdrug anywhere near me, I finally took the plunge a few weeks ago and placed an order online.

At the time, MUA were having a 3 for 2 offer, so I got a nice discount. I was happy enough with their service - we had a Bank Holiday here so the order did take over a week to arrive but at the same time, it arrived in good enough time considering it contained nail polish.

I wanted some of the new nail polishes after seeing this post by Sue, and had fallen in love with a couple of the shadows and a lipstick after watching Dani's video. In the end, I ordered:

  • Nail polish x 5 (Stormy Skies, Pistachio, Frozen Yoghurt, Koala Bear and Bold Blue)
  • Single eyeshadow x 4 (Shade 1 Pearl, Shade 12 Pearl, Shade 24 Pearl and Shade 20 Matt)
  • Eyeshadow Palette (Undress Me Too)
  • Lipstick (Shade 14: Bare)
  • Eyeliner (Snow White)
The total after automatic discount and postage were applied came to under €20, which I was happy with.

The polishes are 6.2ml and cost £1 each. Brush is fine, application is fine. Bold Blue is pretty much a dupe for Barry M's Blueberry Ice Cream - I actually prefer the MUA, because this Barry M colour has a tendency to leave brush marks and go gloopy quite quickly.

Two coats of MUA, two coats of Barry M.

Shade 1 is quite pigmented, and works really well as a highlight.

Shade 12 is a known dupe for MAC's Club - it's another incredibly pigmented shadow and looks like it cost a lot more than a pound.

I bought Shade 24 after Dani mentioned that it's a great colour for green eyes, and it really is - I've used it several times since it arrived and I'd definitely repurchase it.

Shade 20 is the only matte shadow I picked, because I've enough matte shadows in palettes - but it's hard to find a decent black and this one is really good.

Bare is an amazing nude lipstick. I've been searching for a colour like this for a long time, and it hasn't been off my lips since I got it. Excuse the top of it, I was a little over-enthusiastic when putting the cap back on. Here's a look at it on:

It has a really nice creamy consistency and lasts ages before you need to top up. I'm so impressed with the quality, I'm definitely going to pick up another couple at some stage! Also, did everyone else know that the bottom part screws off and is actually a little pot of lip colour?! This happened by accident today and I thought it was such a cute touch, especially when you consider that this was also only £1.

I also got the Undress Me Too palette, which is similar to Urban Decay's Naked 2 palette, but I can't compare the two because I don't own any Urban Decay shadows. The packaging feels flimsy and cheap, but the shadows themselves are pigmented, good quality, and good value at £4 for 12 shades.

Lastly, I picked up one of the Intense Colour eyeliners in the shade Snow White. I was in need of a new white liner, but didn't want to pay more than a couple of euro for one. I forgot to take an individual picture of it, but it's a standard white pencil with a tiny sharpener attached to the lid. It was also £1.

Overall, I'm really impressed with the liner, shadows, and lipstick. They're excellent quality, excellent value, and it felt like a real treat when the package arrived in the post. If you're looking for some value makeup or a cheap pick-me-up, then MUA is definitely the way to go. I'll definitely be ordering from them again in the future.

  13. Wow... the nail polish looks no different than the Barry M equivalent. I've only had a MUA top coat and wasn't that impressed but I'd definitely give the regular colours a go now!
