Saturday Night Song #26

Hey!

Right, a warning, this is X-Factor related again but it's not on purpose. I heard this on the telly last week and it stuck in my head so much I had to google the lyrics. When I found out it was by Little Mix, I was so surprised.

Little Mix originally started as four individual girls who auditioned for the UK X-Factor in 2011. Jade, Jesy, Perrie and Leigh-Anne all failed to make the cut as individual female soloists, but the judges saw their potential and asked if they'd be interested in going through to the next round as a group. They agreed, and the band Rhythmix was born. They had to change their name to Little Mix after some copyright issues, but it didn't affect their success - they ended up winning the competition, being the first group ever to win the show.

Leaving aside the usual tripe of a single that's pumped out right after the end of each X-Factor series (I can't even remember what it was), this is Little Mix's first proper single and it's an instant hit. One of my favourites of the summer! Here's Little Mix - "Wings".

Wings is available for download on iTunes from midnight tonight (GMT).

I promise there'll be no X-Factor related things next week!

Enjoy your Saturday night,

  1. I heard it earlier tonight, isn't it fab? I found myself singing along even though I didn't know it (cats wail)
I really like little mix, I loved their version of extra terrestrial and I like the fact that they dress like young girls, casual, fashionable. I'm so bored of girls in the music industry in short skirts and lots and lots of hair extensions. It's why I love Jessie j she pretty much wears what she wants.

    Great music pick!
