New! Essence Colour & Go 'L.O.L' and 'mrs. & mr. glitter'

Hey!

I'm on a total polish no-buy until the end of September as of now (swaps don't count! Swaps never count!), because the amount of polish I bought in July and August was just silly. This was my most recent buy, I nipped into Penneys to check the end-of-season sale out (50c sunglasses and belts FTW!) and noticed that they'd already got the new Essence Colour & Go bottles. They also have some new Nude Glams, Colour Pigment sets (to make your own nail polish and eye/lip colours) and this new topper. I only bought these two (do I get a prize for restraint?):

Essence Colour & Go 'L.O.L. and 'mrs and mr glitter'

The main reason I bought L.O.L was because I thought it'd make a perfect base for mr & mrs glitter (they don't use capitals on the bottle, that really annoys me for some reason), and I completely forgot I owned Catrice's ACid/DC which is pretty similar, but my heart did a little leap when I realised something.

L.O.L is a bang-on colour dupe for the first expensive polish I ever bought. I had birthday money saved, it was the mid-late 1990s, and I spotted a Lancome Vernis Zapping polish in shade 12. I got absolutely eaten alive when I arrived home with such a ridiculous colour of nail polish (and a ridiculous price) but I bought it for one reason and for one reason only - it was a peel-off nail polish. It went completely opaque in one coat, and I used to put it on regularly just to be able to pick it off. I don't know why it never caught on, I'd still buy it! There's a fantastic blog post about the Lancome Vernis Zapping polish here - she also has some fab pictures and you can see what I mean about shade 12 and L.O.L. The excitement to see it again after all this time!

Back to the polish - the new colour & go brushes are a little more like the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure brushes (which are my favourite kind):

And this is what two coats outside look like:

Application, as always, was flawless. Here's L.O.L with two coats of the glitter:

I really like the topper, but it's a bit of a pain to work with (like all large hex glitters). I think it shows up best over a light colour, but I will try it over purple and black too.

The new Essence Colour & Go bottles are available now and cost e1.79 for 8ml. The Nail Art Special Effect Toppers cost e2.29 and are not limited edition.

  2. I love the look of Mrs & Mr Glitter! I love chunky hexo glitter, but there just doesn't seem to be enough of it, and formulas tend to be really hit or miss (my Barry Ms are too gloopy, not smooth or neat to apply).

    1. The Essence ones are good formula-wise, in fairness they are probably better than most brands I've tried, they don't seem to gloop as much x

  10. I honestly think I give out an electric field or something, and everytime I walk into my local Penneys or Dunnes, all the new Essence and Catrice stuff (mainly polishes, mainly limited editions) just make themselves scarce!
You'd think Dublin city centre be the 1st to get all that....think again!!
I was recently in Mullingar and they had the new Essence fragrances the day after the launch event. That's pretty good going to me!!!!
    Such a groovy 70's mani :-)

  14. I have mr and mrs glitter, just put it on over BL Dodgy Barnett and was googling the glitter to see how other people liked it. I applied mine a lot more sparsely than you did, mine looks like sequin polka dots, but it's still really cute. :) It's funny that you're mentioning peel-off nail polish here because everyone is doing the peel off base coat and peel off Elmer's basecoat now. I never even heard of peek off nail polish until just recently. Looks like your beloved trend may be coming back. I love this essence color. May need to grab it. :)
